The Probationary Period (Prövotid): What Beginners Must Know

When you pass your driving test in Sweden, your license comes with a 2-year probationary period (prövotid). Many new drivers misunderstand what this means.

The Myth

"If I commit any traffic offense, I lose my license immediately."

• Fact: Not exactly. You are subject to the same traffic laws as everyone else. Minor speeding (e.g., 5 km/h over) will result in a fine, just like for any other driver.

The Reality
